Make your own elderberry syrup to support your families immune system! The antioxidant rich elderberry provides immune support while honey adds sweetness and is a natural preservative.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup dried organic elderberries (double amount if you forage fresh!)
- 3 cups water
- 2+ Tbsp fresh ginger
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 tsp cloves
- 1 cup local raw honey
Directions
- Add water, dried elderberries, fresh grated or diced ginger and cinnamon sticks to a pot and bring to a low simmer. Do not boil.
- Allow to simmer uncovered for 45-60 minutes until liquid has reduced by half
- Allow to cool and then squeeze through milk bag.
- Add local raw honey and mix well.
- Add to a 16 oz mason jar. Keep refrigerated. Best used within 6-12 months. Shake well before use. Keeps in a freezer safe jar 12-18 months.
Recommended Dosage
- 1 tsp for children over 1 year, once daily for wellness. Up to 4 times daily while sick.
- 1 Tbsp for kids 12+ and adults, once daily for wellness, up to 4 times daily while sick
- Be sure to take breaks after 1-2 weeks of continual daily use before resuming. Beware that overuse or improper use may result in loose stool or stomach cramps.
- Not for children under 1 years old. *if substituting honey with raw maple, it will not pack the nutritional punch and will alter the shelf life.
Be sure to ask your functional, holistic practitioner if you have autoimmune issues before using regularly.
